I need help you guys. I've been training in MMA for a year now and I when I started I weighed 297lbs. Right now I weight 251lbs and lets say I've hit a brick wall. I'm not gaining wieght anymore, but I'm not losing too. I've since the sudden stop in weight loss have cut a lot of dairy and bread out of my diet. I was just wondering if there were any tips you guys had to help me lose some more weight. I'm not looking for anything too sudden. My goal is to just lose five to seven pounds every month until I get down to anywhere between 155 and 180.

I've heard that if you reduce the amount of meats that you consume, you'll lose more weight easier.

Is Eating Less Meat the Answer to Weight Loss?

This isn’t the first study to show an association between lower meat consumption and lighter body weights. A 2005 Swedish study found that vegetarians, vegans, and those who don’t eat red meat were less likely to be overweight than meat eaters. Several other studies show that vegetarians and people who eat less meat weigh less on average.

Should You Eat Less Meat to Lose Weight?

Protein naturally increases satiety, which means people who eat meat and other high protein foods eat fewer calories overall. This is something to consider before completely giving up meat. The fact that meat-eaters gain more weight, according to some studies, may be related to the fact that meat is often high in fat – although this study showed that even poultry, which is usually leaner than red meat, was associated with weight gain.

Reducing Meat Consumption to Lose Weight

Since protein is usually more filling than carbohydrates, it’s important to get an adequate amount (at least 1 milligram per kilogram of body weight per day), but that doesn’t mean it has to come from meat. Other good sources are eggs (http://healthmad.com/weight-loss/can-eating-less-meat-help-you-lose-weight/#), tofu, chick peas, lentils, quinoa, and the many meat substitutes on the market these days. If you get your protein mostly from beans and lentils, be sure to eat a complimentary protein source such as brown rice to supply the missing amino acids. Fish is also a good source of protein, but select one that’s low in mercury and other contaminants.
If you’re not ready to give up meat, choose leaner cuts of meat – and watch (http://healthmad.com/weight-loss/can-eating-less-meat-help-you-lose-weight/#) the preparation. Avoid frying meats – grill, broil, or stir-fry (http://healthmad.com/weight-loss/can-eating-less-meat-help-you-lose-weight/#) them instead. Choose light meat turkey and chicken instead of red meat whenever possible.

If You Eat Less Meat, Will You Lose Weight?

Try eating less meat for a month – and substitute other vegetarian forms of protein and fish instead. Keep a food dairy and record your weight every week – to see if you’re losing weight. Some people do seem to do better on a diet that contains less meat. Plus, it’s healthier for your heart. See if it works for you.

Yeah, I actaully don't consume very much meat in my diet to be honest. Both of my younger sisters are vetarians so I eat a lot of rice and fruit. Thanks though.

The same goes for the majority of anything sea food since I'm partially allergic and it stresses my exzema. I take Fish Oil pills to take care of that part of my diet.

When I first started fighting MMA I was about 265 I tried all kinds of diets and like you hit a wall once I got to 230 but once I hit that point I could eat whatever I wanted as long as I kept training.

As Kid said, 5 or 6 meals a day is much better for you. It helps keep your body working all day to digest your food, I would also look into the south beach concept. The first 2 weeks are hard but I've had good results with it in the past and it might be something that kick starts your loose again.

Don't worry about it being too hard, I just want to lose as much weight as I possibly can and still remain healthy.

I've liked and lived doing the south beach ;) If you are stuck, I would say try a carb cutting diet for a bit but it might hurt your training for a little while. Find a lower carb shake to help recover after your workout and it should help. Again, do or try what works for you. There is no 1 answer, when I'm doing good, I eat a lot of chicken and eggs and have good results. I also will eat a lot of black beans which are on the higher side of the carbs I like to eat but lots of great fiber which helps offset the carbs. There are also some great tortilla shell by mission I think. The large has around 18 grams of fiber which is just crazy, throw some black beans, chicken and some cheese in there, it's a good meal which will give you plenty of fiber. Again, something that works for me.

I have cut a lot of carbs and right now I'm working out cutting out anything that doesn't contribute to my training or health. I was thinking about taking a diet pill, but everything on the market seems too strong, so I'm just going to stick too what I've been doing.

I lost about 30-35 lbs in three monthes I worked my ass off but honestly it was to much to fast I would still get tired very easily and for some reason I became a bad bleeder. I know it sounds weird but before I started losing the weight I could spar and get hit all day with no effect after I really started losing the weight my nose would bleed at almost every sparring section not to mention I would develop deep bruise's very easily. If I was you I would train hard and just take it easy the weight will come off with time and you will thank yourself for the extra training time.

Stay away from all sugar!!!!

You do know that for energy everything that your body takes in is converted to sugar. Everything that can't be is pooped out. So that is helpful to an extend because for a while I did completly cut sugar out of my diet and I managed for about a week before my body reacted to the extreme lack in energy.

agreed, you just want the amount of sugar that you can burn and not store. That's the problem with the cutting carbs, you can kinda gas out. That's why I usually do a heavy black bean meal, better carbs and great fiber.

Yeah, I was doing pretty well then all of a sudden it was like one of my eyes went lazy and I was looking in two different directions for a minute. I thought I had Diabetes for like three days until my friend/coach told me otherwise.

sugar isnt a bad thing. i just try not to have any, or minimal amounts, after lunch time. i only eat brown rice, not white. i eat alot of spinach, broccoli, and greens. sweet potatoes for carbs as well. i personally eat lean meats, but i also eat alot of red meat too. too much of anything is bad for you, plain and simple.

i do take something called thermo cuts byoptimum nutrition. all thy do is boost your metabolism by a slight body temperature raise. my gf takes a similar pill called oxyeiltepro. same concept.

also, go buy some melatonin. take 3-5 mgs at night about 20-40 minutes before bed time.

do a little research. theres plenty of info out there for you thats for sure. it might take some digging or reading, but it is there.

well in that case ill be honest, ive never been there. BUT, i do know a little bit about it simply from being aorund the scene for awhile and also from knowing others persoanlly to lose good amounts of weight.

if you are woking your cardio, eating a WELL balanced diet, incorporating weight training, and maybe a minimal combination of supplements (so many different ones), then you should be well on your way to your goal.

is your family natually "thick" for their height? some folks are just bigger than others mass wise, plain and simple.

Yeah like the mesomorph, endomorph and ectomorph body types some people can eat what they want and get away with it and some just cant. You are wanting to cut almost half of your body weight and you want to do it fast I know it may not be what you want to hear but it takes time and alot more than a couple of months espicially if you want to do it and remain healthy.

If you do a lot of weight training, it is a good idea to have a good protein shake before you go to bed.......like a casein protein shake, so it slowly absorbs in your system. Starving yourself isn't good either because it raises your cortisol levels which can increase your belly fat. I personally drink a lot of water, probably around 100 ounces or more per day. I have a protein shake first thing in the morning, fruits through out the day with a lot of fiber, and a quality protein shake before bedtime........water, protein, and fiber are the best for loosing weight.....
