Floyd Mayweather beats Dana White & UFC!
By Coach Tim Walker

While the official numbers have not yet come in the rumor mill is circulating surrounding pay per view buys for this past weekend’s head to head pay per view battle between boxing and the UFC. Officially there is no battle between the two sports but many enthusiasts were anxious to see what would happen when a major boxing card faced off with a major UFC card.

The UFC has generally done better pay per view numbers than boxing but the two sports have never gone head to head on the same day. Both sports have been cautious not to set major events on the same date but a rib injury to Floyd Mayweather Junior back in June pushed the re-emergence of “Money” to September 19. The same weekend, same day as UFC 103. The clash between the aforementioned Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez was originally scheduled for July 18..

According the rumor mill boxing dominated the UFC nearly as thoroughly as Mayweather dominated Marquez, at least that night.

If reports are accurate Mayweather/Marquez raked in over 1 million buys at nearly $50 while UFC 103 did approximately 400,000 at nearly $45. You do the math. In reality we may never know the final numbers of the UFC broadcast because it is privately owned and has no legal responsibility to publicly disclose its sales unlike HBO pay per view. Still, you sort of get the feeling that White would love the opportunity to take another stab at boxing and what better way to do that than to point that he went head to head with boxing's bad boy Mayweather…and won...

I think if it's even close to 2:1 in favor of Boxing, hell even 3:1, I'm good with it. The difference is that the UFC will do another half mil PPV next month also and then again the following month. It will be a few years before MMA/UFC can go head to head with Boxing with a single event. But over a year, I'm sure MMA is kicking boxings arse.

Yeah, considering Mayweather "fights" once a year or less, I'm good with them having that many PPV buys. I personally don't know why anyone would buy it but I'm sure people say the same thing about MMA.

In 3 years or so, it will be even per event IMO, but the UFC will be doing 12 a year while boxing is lucky to get 3.

I seriously laughed at every person that told me they were hyped about that bullshit Mayweather fight. I used to be the biggest boxing fan for so many years, but I don't respect that sport anymore. Their promoters destroyed that sport and didn't put back the resources to make it continue to grow. It had so much potential and the people that funded that sport and made all of the money off it let it go straight to shit.

I thought it was hilarious that anyone even took that fight seriously. All of these so called contenders they've given Mayweather have been a joke. THe only real reason why these guys looked like great contenders in the first place is because there isn't a ton of great talent in that sport, so guys like this Marquez guy looked a lot better than way they were. Mayweather took all that time off and was still able to destroy the guy. It was no surprise.

A few questions:

!. Why would anyone want to watch one boxing match with Mayweather where you know there won't be a knockout instead of watching a UFC card where Vitor Belfort of all people is making his return and there will be several good fights to watch instead of just one?? Everyone knows Mayweather doesn't knock anyone out, and on any given UFC card you're going to see at least one knockout. In this particular one every fight was a KO or TKO practically.

2. Why does anyone cheer for Floyd "fucking" Mayweather?? I used to be a huge fan of this guy before a lot of people knew who he was, because I loved his combos and everything, but over the years he has become by far the biggest clown and blabber mouth in all of sports possibly. I don't see how anyone would want to root for this guy at this point.

3. When was the last time anyone ever cared about the under card for a boxing PPV? In the UFC the under card fights are usually all pretty stacked with at least two other good fights to see. In my entire life, I don't ever remember anyone ever getting excited for an under card fight in boxing.

My buddy: Hey! Did you watch the fight????

Me: YEAH!! BELFORT LOOKED SICK!!!!

My Buddy: Who's Belfort?

Me: Oh, you weren't talking about the UFC PPV huh?

My Buddy: No, was there a UFC?

Me: Yup

My Buddy: Nah, did you watch the Mayweather fight?

Me: Nope

My Buddy: WHAT??!?!?!?! WHY?

Me: Who was he fighting again?

My Buddy: IDK, but he DISTROYED HIM!!!

Me: Yeah, because you've never heard of the guy. No body knows anything about him.

My Buddy: Well, I know that dude is good and Mayweather picked him apart the entire time!!!!

Me: Good? What's good exactly?

My Buddy: The guy is unbeaten and Mayweather handed him his only loss!

Me: I'm unbeaten at boxing, does that make me good? I don't even know how to box, but I've never lost a match.

My Buddy: Huh, good point.

They'll say anything they can to sell a fight just like any promoter, but the nice thing about the UFC is that they pretty much have a 75%-99% success rate at backing it up. I laughed so hard when he asked me if I'd watched the "fight".
