Almost everyone who's practiced TMA (Traditional Martial Arts) knows that there is in general always a big focus on the mental aspect. For example, meditating for short periods of time at the beginning and end of class is pretty common. There is always some kind of moral philosophy connected with most TMA's. Most of the time it's the same basic things like: Don't use TMA for hurting, only self defense. Strive to be a good person with high morals. Be noble , be warriorlike and so on and so forth for all eternity.
I often find that MMA , SW, BJJ for example lacks some kind of etiquette and tradition other than "let go when someone taps or he won't let go when you tap" kind of attitude. Do you think that the mental aspect of MA (mostly modern MA) is something that is missing or lacking?
Have you ever had some kind of mental/moral training with modern/western MA? Does Modern MA have a need for the mental , almost noble, aspect of mental training?
What's your take!? :|
