Promoter Bob Arum declared the megafight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. dead on Thursday, though efforts continued to find a compromise to a dispute over blood testing.

"It's over," Arum said. "O-V-E-R."

Arum set a Thursday deadline for an agreement on testing, the only issue not resolved for the planned March 13 fight. But with the Mayweather camp still insisting on using the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency to conduct the tests, Arum said there wasn't much left to discuss.

"They're viewed by the Pacquiao side as being partisan," Arum said, referring to the USADA. "He doesn't want to use them. I don't want to use them. They're so inflexible they can't be used."

Despite Arum's statements, there were some talks through intermediaries to try and salvage the bout. Neither side, though, appeared to be backing off its position on the biggest dispute: Who will do the testing?

Arum said he planned to move forward by having Pacquiao fight on March 13 against Paul Malignaggi, a flashy but light-hitting boxer. He said there was still a chance Pacquiao and Mayweather could meet later in the year.

"As far as I'm concerned the fight is over," Arum said. "Can it be revisited in the autumn? We'll see."

Daley you crazy bastard haha, been here 3 days and already calling out pacman for roids? Think about this though:

Mayweather DEMANDED Olympic blood drug testing for this fight. He DEMANDED it. He wouldn't even budge on exactlywhen the testing should be done relative to the time of the fight. Nevermind that such a drug test has really never been done ever in the history of professional championship boxing. Why the hell is Mayweather demanding it? Who the hell does he think he is demanding it? Freddy Roach was the one who came out and said he would not allow blood to be taken fgrom Pacquiao within a certain period before the fight, and Mayweather wouldn't have it. Mayweather single-handedly ruined this fight, because he didn't really want it. For years, Mayweather has been hand-picking his opponents and he calls himself the greatest, yeah OK.

Now he's going to fight Shane Mosely? OK, that's a legit fight, but wait a second...Mosely HAS tested positive before...I'll say this right now. If the Olympic style testing Mayweather demanded for the Pacquiao fight isn't done for the Mosely fight, and Mosely has been caught before, then Mayweather is a hypocrite and a big-mouthed fraud.

This is just a great example of what I DON'T want the UFC to become or MMA in general. We already have SF champs not defending their belts for extended periods of time. They also have the best HW in the world fighting NON-top 10 guys. I grew up a boxing fan and can't stand it now.

But more importantly, welcome to the site Kimurafan.

Misfit, excellent point, and thanks for the welcome. Me, Daley, and some other guys jumped ship from this other site that's falling apart, glad to see three is some serious discussion going on over here. And yes, I totally agree with you. I'm actually writing an article right now on why the UFC's business model can actually be really good for MMA as a whole. Mayweather-Pacquiao is what happens when you let too many people get their hand in the pot on this co-promotion BS. Guys like Josh Gross can whine all they want about the UFC's refusal to co-promote preventing us from seeing certain fights, but I can't think of a single fight that would be worth the UFC compromising the strength of their brand. Fedor vs. Randy? Not so much. Fedor vs. Brock? A lot more intruiging but still not so necessary that we need co-promotion. Big fights fall apart because of co-promotion, people get burned, and it hurts both business and the sport.

Oh Daley, you're damn right bro. Mayweather totally whipped Juan Manuel Marquez. Marquez was tough, but wasn't in that fight for a second. Masterful fight from Mayweather, no doubt.
