I used to do something called HIIT training which gained me the best improvements when I was younger.

You have to be in ok shape before you do it IMO but I loved it. Helped get a great cardio workout within a half hour.

I do interval running to music. Run during chorus, sprint during rifts, and walk the rest. Your heart can't get used to it. Also, I do Bas Rutten's Boxing and Muay Thai workout -- 2 minute rounds until I work up to the 3 minute rounds. And, generally staying active.

If you think you have enough Cardio, you don't have enough Cardio. You never have enough Cardio...

And smoking is a great way to lower your stamina and cardio dude, you'll want to try and get rid of that. There are a lot of polymetirc exercises too. You've probably seen the tire flipping thing or the hammer the tire exercises? Those are great but I would do handstands and wall sits and so on for long periods of time to build stamina. Stamina is more than just cardio, it's staying very active for longer and longer periods of time so you just have to look for activities that inspire that. On the new Nike (I think) commercial it shows GSP swinging huge HUGE ropes up and down, back and forth for long periods of time and at first it's probably kinda easy but as you go on it gets harder and harder and harder until you HAVE to quit but going just that bit more is where stamina grows. Look for that kind of thing. For me, I would carry 4' X 8' plywood sheets ( as many as I could hold of the 1/2" stuff) as far as I could walk it and then I'd practice setting it down nicely too to add more to the exercise. I got to where I could carry 4 sheets (2") 100 yards and that really helped me a lot. It sounds retarded but so does flipping a damn tractor tire and all the pros do that.

Nah Guru, it actually doesn't sound retarded to tell you the truth!! I was in the army and that's a good way to get where he needs to be. You want retarded? Try holding a fake plastic M16 out in front of you til it feels like it's made of lead and once you get to that point THEN start exercising with it. Up over your head, down behind it, back up and then back in front!! All the while everyone in unison saying some stupid shit the DS wanted you to say to get a laugh at your expense.Woo hoo! Wow I miss the fun.... That's not even the worst, but this isn't about that. Run, run, run, run. Oh and then run some more. Also do a lot of push ups, sit up, leg lifts and that type of stuff. You gotta remember, they're not talking you to the gym, they're working you everywhere they can. You're gonna get dropped for other peoples screw ups and that may be in the middle of some
field somewhere. Do you know where you're going to basic at?

I don't know where you're at, but one of the hardest things for me coming from Cali was exercising in the cold. Getting up at the crack of dawn and going for a run sucked because when you're breathing hard that cold air burns your lungs if you're not use to it. I was in South Carolina and Virginia, so if you're out east get up early if you can for your runs to get use to that cold air in your lungs!! Good luck. Don't worry either way they'll break you and build you back up. It's what they do.
