I'm sure when Metallica wrote Master of Puppets way back when, they didn't think it was going to be used for a Nascar ad on ESPN. I'm shocked every time I hear it. It's just an odd mix for me.

really? why is that? ill be honest, when i was younger my dad was into nascar like crazy. he still is, any sort of racing for that matter. when i was younger i oculdnt stand to watch it but now i love it. ever since i went to my first nascar race. i can merge metallica and nascar personally.

Well, back when Masters was released, Nascar was really, really redneck and Metallica was not. Now, the group formally known as Metallica hit all areas so it's not that much of a surprise. But I would expect them to use the new Metallica like Fuel or something, not Masters. Again, to me, Metallica died when Cliff did. I did love the Garage Days stuff and I respected the work done on Justice but it was over produced.

this is true. and nascar is still considered widely as redneck, but its grown to ALL sorts of people.

For sure but once Fox took it over, it really, really moved the sport forward. That's why I always want the UFC and Fox to team up. I'm not a Nascar fan at all, I only like it when they make right hand turns, watching 400+ left hand turns does very little for me. But a right hand turn with nobody dying is a lot of fun to see.
