    The Official UFC Signee Thread

    By Zane Simon @TheZaneSimon on Aug 18, 2015, 4:11p

Riding his trusty steed "Thunderhorse" back into the UFC comes favorite cult-fighter of yesteryear, Tamdan McCrory. "The Barn Cat" as he's also known was something of a fan favorite in his first run through the ranks of the Octagon where he went 3-3 with wins over Pete Spratt, Luke Cummo, and Ryan Madigan. But, after a split decision loss to John Howard back in 2009, McCrory vanished.

In a recent interview with MMAFighting, McCrory went into some of the details of his prolonged absence:

"I never really meant to take all that time off. It's just the way circumstances lead you in life. I got so far out of the mix. For a time, I didn't want to fight. There were times I didn't want to, then there were times I wasn't able to, and there were other things...injuries, problems. I just could never get the momentum enough to get competitive, or I just couldn't find the right fights, or I couldn't find someone who'd fight me, or I couldn't find somebody who'd want to pay me."

And then, suddenly he was back. This time, with Bellator and this time at middleweight. It seemed as though he was lined up as a footnote in Brennan Ward's potential rise to stardom under the Viacom banners, but McCrory showed that whatever the reasons for his time off, it hadn't taken the edge off his skills. He knocked Ward cold in just 21 seconds and then turned around and submitted Jason Butcher just five months later. And now, as the UFC confirmed in a recent press release, he's back in the big show.

Here's what McCrory had to say about his UFC return:

"I left a title shot in [my last promotion] to come to the UFC," McCrory said. "If I wanted to win that belt I could have stayed and done it, but I wanted to be back in the sport of MMA, not the MMA entertainment business."

Also according to the UFC's press release, McCrory will be staying at middleweight and is looking to make his return sometime around October-November. So, time to jump on board your hatredcopters, because the Barn Cat is about to bloodrocute the Zuffa middleweight division.

Some guy from Bloody Elbow made this comment

Debuted in the UFC in 2007 at Age 21

And out of nowhere, triangle choked out Pete Spratt in his UFC debut.

Proceeded to go 3-3 in the UFC, never losign two straight fights. Was, in the opinion of many at the time, undeservedly cut by the UFC when he was cut after losing a split decision to John Howard and, again, never having lost two fights consecutively.

After getting cut from the UFC in 2009, he seemingly retired……

Only to resurface last September against Brennan Ward. Ward was one of the biggest names/presumed best fighters in Bellator’s MW division and this was seen as a rebound fight for him. McCrory, gone for 5 years from the sport, fighting a weigh class up from where he used to be, and hardly the athletic specimen that Ward is, was a heavy underdog. Ward was 9-2 and 4-1 in his last five, with that last loss being in a title fight to then MW champ Alexander Shlemenko. He was a Bellator MW Tournament Winner and, pre-MMA, was a NCAA DIII All-American Wrestler and National-Runner Up, as well as a State Champion and Regional Champion in High school. Of his eight wins in MMA, only one was by decision.

This was supposed to be a rebound fight for Ward and yet, in 20 seconds, McCrory knocked him clean out.

Then, to prove that it wasn’t a fluke, McCrory took on Jason Butcher in his second Bellator fight. Butcher is a rock solid BJJ black belt with an 8-1 record going in, all wins being finishes. While it’s largely bullshit, he also claims to have "the best guard in MMA." And, in fairness, he basically dominated Giva Santana. Butcher isn’t anything special, but he’s a solid fighter and McCrory didn’t just beat him, he armbarred him. In one minute.

That’s right, McCrory didn’t just submit a black belt, he did it in one minute. And he armbarred a guy who had just beaten Giva "the Arm Collector" Santana.

He must be on some good coin, turning down a title shot in Bellator and unlimited sponsor money......to return to the UFC and filter into a much deeper roster and a paltry $2500 Reebok payment.

He'd be on more than $2500 though right? Because he already has had 6 fights in the UFC.
