    UFC on ESPN+

Curious how everyone is experiencing this new ESPN+ era of UFC broadcasts. Most everyone else here is either in Canada or the UK, so wondering how this change is affecting how you see UFC events.

For me, they're wanting me to pay a subscription fee for ESPN+, and the last two events I was interested in watching were only available there. I don't know enough about what's happening to know if we're going to see any free events on regular ESPN broadcasts, or if I'm out of luck.

My situation where I'm currently living is such that I do not have an unlimited internet connection, as I'm on an 11 acre farm property outside a small town in Northern Virginia, which is cool, but there's no cable, and I'm using my phone as a hot spot for internet. I'm using Dish satellite TV, but they don't offer internet in this location. There is satellite internet available, but it's not unlimited, and performance is poor, no WIFI phone capability in this location, so I'm not using it. In this situation, streaming TV is not really viable. My phone connection is technically unlimited, but after 22 gigs they can slow me down, and it's already fucking glacially slow out here...

I already go out to bars to see the PPV's, so don't expect that to change, but didn't know if we can expect to see any Fight Nights or other events as part of regular ESPN programming, or if the new deal is expressly limited to the Plus format. Thoughts?

Well I cancelled my cable about 5 months ago as it was getting too expensive for less content.....in Canada, I believe it's still shown on the TSN network of channels but more often than not it's on the premium TSN channel, meaning it's an extra 20.00 a month......I watch about 95% of my MMA on MMASHARE the day after the events and I do occasionally go out, but that is also becoming harder and harder to find establishments that show the fights

Been using MMA Share for years as well, but when we had FOX, I was getting a lot of free events there. Never did the Fight Pass thing...

Since I wrote my post, I looked at some posts about upcoming events, and it does look like there will be some events broadcast free as normal programming on ESPN or one of it's subsidiary channels. That's good to know, and I look forward to some good free programming.

I guess lucky for me, I have several venues in the surrounding areas that carry virtually all the PPV events, with no cover charge. As I mentioned when I saw the Nunes/Cyborg fight, the Buffalo Wild Wings where I see most events was as packed as I've ever seen it, and it seems to me like I'm actually seeing increased interest in MMA in this area.

Nothing has changed for us in the UK, we still get all the events the same way we always have for the last 5-6 years, on BT Sport.

As I understand it, there will be a handful of events on ESPN itself, but the large majority is on ESPN+ now. You've hit on a problem I thought might be bad for the UFC when they signed this deal too, that they've basically cut off any future growth now. By hiding their product behind a pay wall almost permanently now, how do they find a casual fan, how do they get their stuff shown in bars, nobody can channel hop and accidentally find an event now, and even if there was a Griffin/Bonnar moment now, nobody can just turn the channel and tune in. I think it's too early in the sports/UFC life to jump from TV to almost exclusive streaming. But I guess we'll see soon enough.
