Tony might as well grab a seat on the bench, even Kabib blasted him for refusing the fight saying its his own fault.

But as for 145 who knows at this point....
It's kind of understandable for Tony to refuse an Interim belt seeing as he already won one and had it taken from him before getting a shot at the champion. But, he needs to be smarter. Not just should an Interim belt guarantee you a shot at the champion, it also guarantees you champion pay. He needs to use this leverage rather than sulk and be 'principled'.

Fuck this time last week Poirier, Iaquinta and another 155'er were asking for their release......if I'm Bellator I'm watching very closely and offering big contracts when these guys are free

When those guys asked for their release they thought the UFC was trying to make Kabib-GSP and screwing those guys over but to defend Dana for once he actually denied GSP's request which is great even tho that could have been a huge money fight for them. That fight should GSP have won would have screwed over the LW division the same as what he did to the MW division leaving contenders careers in limbo.

Agreed. Bellator should be very focussed on all this stuff, they could easily pick up fighters if the contract is good enough.

There is clearly another way to please a huge roster of 155'rs in the UFC though, add 165lbs and split the roster, giving them another chance of gold and a smaller pool to swim in to get there too.

Yep, really surprised 165 hasn't been announced yet

I really feel like Tony is the 155 champ. He didn't lose his belt and I think he's done more than Khabib has. I also think he beats Khabib, but whatever. They can say what they want.

Tony and Max is a really stupid fight. Let Max earn his way up the ladder some first especially if you're going to risk Tony who should be fighting Khabib. Khabib should have been stripped of the belt for missing so much time all because he jumped out the cage.

This PPV reportedly only did 100K buys, some are saying even lower

Not good, but there was really only 2 fights on that card...not sure what UFC really expects sometimes....dont expect to do the next one to do any better.

I heard that today too. Brutal. Yes it wasn't exactly a strong card, but the top 2 fights were very good fights, and Adesanya is supposed to be the future too. It's a terrible sign for things going forward. The UFC may be unconcerned seeing as they don't really need to do big numbers any more to make a PPV worthwhile, but for the sport it's awful...….basically nobody will be watching the elite fight any more...….and longer term, ESPN won't want that and will not renew, and who's gonna want a company with no stars or reliable evidence of fan interest any more?

Side note, the talk I heard suggested there are roughly 1 million subscribers to ESPN+...…..so that is the very maximum the UFC can expect, but in reality a 10% share of that digging in and paying for a PPV may actually be a very good number.

So a few thoughts and questions: The top 2 fights on that card were worth a PPV buy for those who tend to buy 50% or so......237 is shit and headlined by WMMA.....not to disparage the women, I enjoy watching them fight, but they don't typically sell outside of the douche RR.

Does one NEED a subscription to ESPN+ in order to buy the PPV??? I would assume so right?

The new format of PPV purchasing is also going to limit the $$$ the UFC pays out to the "stars" as the "points" won't be there due to limited buys......which in turn is going to limit the UFC's ability to sign and retain top guys in the future I would think, we have already seen it with Brock (assuming it wasn't a failed drug test) and it'll likely hold up the paper champ from returning
